ULTRA-DENSE hair transplants are clearly the new state-of-the-art. Due to advances in graft preparation and placement techniques we are able to routinely place 50 to 60 grafts per square centimeter and still achieve near 100% survival and growth in every case. This means patients are able to achieve the fullest and most natural results ever in a single treatment. An added benefit is that fewer patients will require a second treatment to achieve their desired hair density. 3000 or more grafts can be placed in a single seven to eight hour session.
LATERAL SLITS CUT TO SIZE is the technique that enables our ultra-dense and ultra-refined hair transplant techniques. 0.7 mm to 1.2 mm special micro-scalpels allow us to make the smallest and most superficial graft receptor sites possible. Lateral orientation of receptor slits results in higher cosmetic thickness than other previous site orientations. We go one step beyond by precisely varying the site orientations to obtain a natural flow of hair throughout the different regions of the scalp. The result is an ultra dense and ultra refined hair transplant.
5000 to 6000 grafts in six months is a great new option for patients with advanced balding who want the fullest coverage possible in the shortest period of time. This new approach has several advantages over the more traditional Mega Session. In a traditional Mega Session as many grafts as possible are harvested and placed throughout as much of the balding area as possible. While such an approach produces dramatic change with a single session, the result is less dense than can be achieved because the grafts must be distributed over a larger area than would be covered in an Ultra-dense hair transplant. The traditional Mega Session is still a great option for the extensively bald patient who (1) has limited donor, (2) is older and/or not seeking high density coverage, or (3) wants to do only one treatment. One problem with the traditional Mega Session approach is, in a second treatment usually performed a year later, there may be temporary shock loss of some of the previously transplanted hair. So, just when the patient is enjoying their new hair they have to go through a period of 6 to 12 months of thinner hair before the new transplants and shocked hair recovers and fully grows. Thus, patients with advanced balding who are seeking the fullest results possible will take two years to reach their goal and will have to go through a temporary set back in coverage halfway through the process.
In the ULTRA-DENSE 2 STEP METHOD patients with extensive baldness who are seeking the fullest results possible will reach their goal in 16 to 18 months and will not have to deal with the problem of shock loss in the process. In this approach the first session is an Ultra-dense graft packing of the front. The second treatment performed 4 to 6 months later is an Ultra-dense graft packing of the top and crown. The front matures quicker than the top and crown but by a year and a half after beginning the process patients have the fullest head of hair possible. They may still elect to do some touch-up treatments for selective area density or for progression of their balding, but these are optional and not commonly required. How many grafts can we do in a session? It can be as much as 4000 if the patient has high donor density and scalp elasticity. Not everybody fits these criteria, but sessions of 2500 to 3500 are commonly attainable.
Trichophytic Donor Closure is our new innovation to make our routinely very fine donor scars even more invisible. We remove a narrow portion of the surface of the skin along one edge of the strip margin prior to closure. This makes it possible for hair to grow right through the scar. Such scars are barely perceptible with hair cut to a #1 or 2 clipper setting. Follicular Unit Extraction can’t really do better than this for most patients.
Body Hair Transplants- with our Follicular Unit Extraction technique (FUE) we can help patients who could not be treated before, because they have insufficient scalp donor hair to get a good result. Now, if a man has extensive body hair of good length and texture that is a close match to their head hair, we can safely and comfortably move 100s to 1000s of hairs from the body to the scalp. Many sessions are usually required, but can be performed on consecutive days or spaced at longer convenient intervals. Rarely do patients have post treatment “down time.” This approach is a great option for those who are “follicularly challenged” or who have poor cosmetic results from previous outmoded hair transplants and do not have enough scalp donor hair to get a satisfying result.
