For the Hair You’ve Always Wanted

Hair Restoration Surgery New York, New Jersey, Boston

While hair restoration includes both surgical and nonsurgical techniques, hair transplantation is by far the surgical hair restoration technique most favored by specialists. At True & Dorin Medical Group, our founding doctors are very familiar with the procedure, as they have performed hair restoration surgery for hundreds of satisfied patients at our premier facilities in New York, New Jersey, and Boston.

The Hair Restoration Surgery Procedure

Basically, hair restoration surgery is a minor procedure, performed by our doctors at our New York, New Jersey, and Boston treatment centers using only the most advanced technology. A hair transplant is done by harvesting dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-resistant hair from the back of your scalp, and then transplanting it into the balding areas of your head. (If you have an identical twin, his or her hair can be transplanted as it has the same genetic makeup.)

Once hair has been harvested via strip or extracted, Dr. True or Dr. Dorin will transplant it to the balding areas of your scalp. Specifically, the donor hair will be inserted into tiny slits the surgeon makes in the scalp. Each graft contains one or more hair follicles with accompanying donor hair, tissue, and skin.

Depending on factors such as the extent and rate of your hair loss and the amount of donor hair you can spare, more than one hair restoration session may be necessary. Usually, men can attain their desired results after one or two treatment sessions. Women tend to require more sessions to achieve consistent density. The average length of a hair transplant session is 5 to 8 hours.

What to Expect after Hair Restoration Surgery

Each patient who undergoes hair restoration surgery in New York, New Jersey, and Boston will be asked to watch our informative post-operative DVD before leaving our facilities. Dr. True and Dr. Dorin will also be sure to answer any questions about post-operative care during the consultation and after the procedure. Although our patients are ambulatory at the time of discharge, we discourage them from driving themselves home after surgery.

For the first ten days after the procedure, patients can expect to experience very minor to moderate discomfort depending on the size and method of procedure. There are no bandanges and patients may resume basic activities within a day, including washing your hair gently with a mild shampoo.  If FUT is performed, strenuous activity should be avoided until after the sutures are removed after 10 - 12 days. If the procedure is done by FUE (no stitches), within a week or so you can begin to engage in a an increased level of physical activity. After the first week you will notice that any redness and crusting will dissipate and the grafted areas will start to blend in with your natural hair.

Follow-up visits are recommended every four months for the first year after treatment.
