Question 1: Do things like Avacor, Folligard, the Laser Comb, etc really work?
Unfortunately, the answer is generally NO. There may be small benefits and exceptional cases of significant benefit, but patients are much better served by using scientifically proven hair loss treatments (see Medical Treatment under Treatment Techniques).
FDA has now approved low level laser therapy (office based and laser comb as effective in treating hair loss. This approval was based on one study submitted by a manufacturer. As yet there has not been independent confirmation of effect. We do know that use of low level laser therapy is safe, but we are not yet ready to say with confidence that it is truly effective.
