Men and women facing hair loss can now undergo low-level laser therapy while conducting their normal daily activities. The Capillus® laser cap is a convenient treatment option which can easily be concealed under a hat. These unique devices administer laser therapy to provide patients with a non-surgical option for hair regrowth. While some patients achieve their treatment goals using a laser cap, it may not be the best choice for every patient. Dr. Robert H. True and Dr. Robert J. Dorin are highly experienced in diagnosing and treating hair loss conditions, such as androgenetic alopecia, which the cap has been strategically designed to treat. At True & Dorin Medical Group in New York, New Jersey, and Boston, we can help determine if a laser therapy cap is feasible for you.
What is a Capillus Laser Cap?
Capillus offers four laser therapy caps: the Capillus272™ Pro, Capillus202™, Capillus272™ OfficePro, and the Capillus82™. The cap should be worn for 30 minutes every other day to ensure regular, effective treatment. During use, these devices emit low-level light therapy to your scalp which stimulates the cells within your hair follicles. This restores the follicles to a healthy state, allowing them to resume hair growth. However, it cannot stimulate follicles that are no longer producing hairs.
Is This Device Effective for All Types of Hair Loss?
Capillus caps were originally created to treat androgenetic alopecia, as the laser is able to stimulate hair growth in follicles shrunken by DHT (dihydrotestosterone). The advanced treatment is specifically intended for women with Ludwig-Savin Classifications I-II and men with Norwood Hamilton Classifications IIa-V.
These unique devices administer laser therapy to provide you with a convenient, non-surgical option for hair regrowth.
These devices are typically recommended to patients with moderate thinning. While the caps can improve the health of hair follicles and reduce thinning, it is not typically a substantial solution for those who are experiencing a high level of hair loss or have reached complete baldness. During your consultation, your doctor can evaluate and diagnose your condition to determine whether this may be an effective treatment.
Benefits of Laser Caps
Capillus laser therapy caps have become more popular with patients over the years since they offer unique benefits such as:
- Discreet treatment
- Ease of use
In some cases, a cap can also be used in unison with other hair loss treatments including hair restoration procedures or prescription medications such as Rogaine® and Propecia®. While these devices have been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, it is of the utmost importance to first discuss treatment with your doctor.
Results will vary from patient to patient depending on the extensiveness and type of hair loss you are experiencing. To achieve the best results, it is important to only use the laser cap as recommended.
Generally, it will take about four to six months for results to become evident. While you may experience hair regrowth following this period, this will end when you discontinue use of the cap.
